Alstrom Point
We headed south, leaving paved roads we drove about 30 miles to an isolated campsite above Lake Powell.
We arrived a little while before sunset.
We picked two campsites far away from anyone else.
It was a beautiful sunset, even though there were no clouds.
The stars came out and we could easily see the Milky Way.
What looked like the sun rising on the horizon was actually the moon.
Moonrise.
We went to bed, and set the alarm so we could get up to see the sun rise.
Without the clouds, the sunrise wasn't very dramatic, but we welcomed the warmth and it was still a spectacular scene.
This is about as isolated as you can feel.
Lake Powell.
The road was very rough in spots, not for low-clearance vehicles.
This road passed through some truly unique landscapes.
Every bend offered up new and colorful views.
Coral Sand Dunes State Park
The next day we drove out to Coral Sand Dunes State Park.
The wind was strong, whipping the sand around, especially off the tops of the dunes.
Johnny was the perfect model, willing to tirelessly run around the dunes for a cool picture.
Vermillion Cliffs State Park
Later we took another dirt road to the Vermillion Cliffs State Park.
Rain was coming, we had very little light, but the views were still amazing.
I took out the drone for some aerial views of the cliffs.
Those tiny specs are Thu, Johnny and Nini having a balloon fight.
The winner?
This is definitely a place we have to return when we have a little more time.
While in the area we had to stop and get a picture of Horseshoe Bend.
