Day 2-Blackjack to Little Harbor
Day 2 was an easier day. Only eight miles, but after an initial climb it was downhill most of the way.
After completing the main climb at mile two, we stopped at the Airport In The Sky for breakfast, and we bought sandwiches to go for dinner that evening.
Bison burger, perfect for breakfast.
There were so many points where it looked like you would just walk right off the edge into the ocean.
Baby rattlesnake! First time we've ever seen one on a hike.
Spring wildflowers in bloom.
After a long six mile downhill, we arrived at our favorite campground, Little Harbor. It felt like reaching a beautiful oasis.
There's a company that rents kayaks to campers. They leave the paddles at your campsite and it's the perfect way to end a long day of hiking.
A wonderful sunset out on the calm ocean.
Day 3-Little Harbor to Two Harbors
Day 3 was another tough day. Only 6.5 miles with a long climb at the beginning to the ridge and again it would be rolling mountain top views.
As we pushed north on the island it became a little drier and more arid, so there was less greenery and more cactus.
Looking south down the west coast of the island. And taking a break on the long, steep climb.
Incredible views. We only had bugs at one spot where the wind died down, but other than that, the entire trek was bug free.
Lots of private coves where you can boat in and camp.
We saw a lot of this broken down bison fence along the trek. The cactus seemed to love growing around the deteriorating wooden posts.
Heading down the mountain towards Two Harbors where we would be spending the night.
There's a cool rotting truck off the side of the trail.
Birds dominate the island. There aren't many predators so they live a pretty nice life just soaring around and pestering the hikers.
Cat Harbor is the second of the harbors at Two Harbors.
We stopped in Two Harbors for lunch, then headed back down the coast a bit towards camp.
We stayed at the beach, so we were able to take a quick dip in the ocean and felt refreshed for the night.
