Tierra del Fuego National Park/Beagle Channel

Tierra del Fuego National Park

Early in morning, we headed into Tierra del Fuego NP to beat the tour buses full of cruise boat tourists.  But because we were so early, the Post Office at the End of the World was not yet open.

The glossy waters of the bay were mesmerizingly peaceful and quite unexpected.  This area was said to be windy most of the time.  We followed the trail hugging the shoreline, stumbling into scenic coves and beaches around every bend.

Once the trail began veering inland, we decided to turn around so we could get to another part of the park. When we got back, the parking lot was already a chaotic mess, and our car was trapped behind a few giant tour buses.

A light drizzle accompanied us as we drove on the Road at the End of the World, which ended at another parking lot.

A quick walk on the boardwalks, some pictures of the area, and we were finished with our morning exploration of Tierra del Fuego.

The Beagle Channel

We had planned on hiking to a lake up in the mountains, but because of the gloomy weather, we forfeited.  Instead, we booked a half-day boat tour on the Beagle Channel.

The tour stopped at an island for a pleasant, short hike to the tiptop for a panoramic view back to Ushuaia.

Next, we cruised out to and around the lighthouse.  Seals and cormorants, their excrement painting the rock white and their wretched odor acted as a line of defense. We didn’t need to get any closer.

For dinner, we stopped by the Korean restaurant we had spotted on our walk the previous evening.  Inconveniently, they did not have seating inside, so it was back to our Airbnb for a quiet dinner with an amazing view out the giant single-pane glass windows of the living room. Our goodbye dinner with Javi.  The next morning we drove him to the airport
