Seattle

We spent a couple of fun days in Port Townsend visiting Thu's cousins on Discovery Bay.

Getting the boat in the water for a day of crabbing.

Gloomy skies, but the water was relatively calm.

We had to watch out for our buoys, didn't want to haul up the wrong traps!

A winch to help with the heavy traps.

Not a bad catch! Too bad most of them had to be thrown back in the water. We could only keep males, and they had to be a certain size.

Learning how to hold a crab without getting pinched.

Returning to the dock. Not only was the crabbing fun, but the views alone were worth the trip.

A view of Discovery Bay.

Dinner!

Taking a short but scenic hike through the forest on the west side of the bay.

Nice views from the beach at Port Townsend.

We had incredible views of eagles and hawks, at one point a couple of hawks were fighting with an eagle.

Two dogs that Thu wasn't really afraid of...

...until this one attacked another little one trying to defend his toy.

Moonrise.

Eagles were circling, possibly eyeing the little dogs as dinner.

Sunset over Discovery Bay.

The following day we had a short visit with friends up on Camano Island, another place in the San Juan Islands.

Short hike on the south end of Camano Island.

Beautiful views of the North Cascades.

Max had set out traps the day before, so we had to paddle out before sunset to collect the crabs.

Pulling up the traps in a canoe was a little bit trickier than in a regular sized crabbing boat. Max and Thu made a great team, both paddling and dealing with the trap. I just took pictures and enjoyed the ride!

After measuring and sorting, we only ended up with one crab. Still...totally worth the effort.
