Crater Lake
June of 2015 was the month for the annual Buu family camp. This year, everyone jumped in a couple of RV’s and drove up to Oregon. This was an ambitious trip with so many people, but a trip well worth the effort.
Crater Lake was one of the main stops in Oregon. The vibrant blue water was the perfect backdrop to stretch out everyone’s legs and enjoy the natural beauty.
Big Obsidian Flow Trail
With even the little kids in tow, we all climbed the mile-long trail up into the youngest lava flow of obsidian in Oregon. This was a really unique trail with impressive views of the lake and forests below.
Paulina Lake
Once again, the whole gang packed into our vehicles and drove over to another hike...this time around nearby Paulina Lake. We ended up hiking further than planned, but the little ones and older ones pushed through the pain and made it all the way around the lake. What an accomplishment!
What would a Buu camping trip be without finding the perfect campsite? East Lake Resort was a nice, peaceful spot with a lake and open grassy fields ready for some Buu soccer action.
Paulina Peak
A small group of us with the smaller vehicles drove to a viewpoint high up on Paulina Peak. The RV’s weren’t allowed on the steep, curvy roads. The view was incredible. Looking down at the intense blue of the lake, the deep black of the obsidian flow, and the thousand shades of green in the forests, this left a lasting impression of how beautiful Oregon can be.
Smith Rock
Smith Rock is a world-class climbing destination. Seemed like the perfect place to introduce all the little Buu’s to the sport. The YA’s and the YA’s at heart split off from the group and climbed a small section on the lesser visited side of the park. We had plenty of time before everyone else arrived, so we all took turns and practiced a few different routes up the rocks.
We all had fun and were challenged with this climb, but Katrina’s skills were really put to the test. She climbed for almost two hours, battling her way up the steep rock face. We were all thrilled to see her finally make it to the top, exhausted but happy!
