Nearing the end of our road trip, we decided to make a short stop outside of Wendover to finally see the Bonneville Salt Flats. Located on a vast stretch of Highway 80 between Salt Lake City and Lake Tahoe, this area is difficult to plan into one of our normal travel itineraries. Since we were driving, as luck would have it, from Salt Lake City to Lake Tahoe, we were excited to finally check this place out.
A storm was fast approaching from the west, which made for an incredible background contrasted against the stark white salt flats.
It seemed like the thing to do was drive out and take pictures of your car. So, we joined in on the fun. I think the storm and mid-week timing kept the salt flats relatively clear of people.
An amazing place for photography!
Thankfully there were plenty of places to wash the car off in Wendover. This salt is definitely no something you want covering your car for very long.
As the storm passed through, we saw a double rainbow as we left the salt flats. I wish we had stayed a little longer to see them over Bonneville, but it was still nice in our rearview mirror.
